Program Description

Join Sy Safransky, founder and editor of The Sun, along with contributors Poe Ballantine, Krista Bremer, and Cheryl Strayed, for a free reading at The Heartland Café, Saturday, March 3. Doors open at 7 pm; reading begins at 8. We hope to see you there.

Sy SafranskySy Safransky is founder and editor of The Sun, an independent, ad-free monthly magazine. He is the author of the essay collection Four in the Morning and has edited several books, including The Mysterious Life of the Heart: Writing from The Sun about Passion, Longing, and Love.

Poe BallantinePoe Ballantine is the author of two essay collections, two novels, and the forthcoming nonfiction book Love and Terror on the High Plains of Nowhere. His writing has appeared in Best American Essays and Best American Short Stories, and he is the subject of the recent documentary Poe Ballantine, a Writer in America. His short works have appeared in numerous publications, especially The Sun.

Krista BremerKrista Bremer is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Writers’ Award, a Pushcart Prize, and a North Carolina Arts Fellowship. Her essays have appeared in The Times (London), O: The Oprah Magazine, and The Sun. She is a regular contributor to National Public Radio, and her forthcoming memoir will be published by Algonquin Books. She lives in Carrboro, NC, and works as The Sun’s associate publisher.

Cheryl StrayedCheryl Strayed is the author of the memoir Wild and the novel Torch. Her essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine; The Washington Post Magazine; The Sun; Allure; The Rumpus; Brain, Child; and Best American Essays. The winner of a Pushcart Prize, Strayed earned her MFA in fiction writing at Syracuse University. She lives in Portland, Oregon.
