Poe Ballantine did not see a dentist for sixteen years. Then one day, at the age of forty-six, he married one. A beautiful son and several books followed. He lives with his family in a small town in the northwest corner of Nebraska. His novel Whirlaway is due out on April Fool’s Day 2018.

Kasia Clarke lives with her husband in sunny Brisbane, Australia, while pursuing her medical degree. When not spending time in hospital wards, she takes photographs and learns languages (six so far). Her poetry is forthcoming in Anchor.

Mick Cochrane is the author of four novels and teaches at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, where he lives with his family and two dogs: a Labrador released from duty as a seeing-eye dog for being overly interested in squirrels and birds, and a boxer-terrier mix with an adorable underbite.

Haroon Moghul is the Fellow in Jewish-Muslim Relations at the Shalom Hartman Institute. He’s written three books and has ideas for five more. He lives in the Bronx but wants to move to Los Angeles.

Kate Osterloh is a U.S. diplomat stationed in Islamabad, Pakistan. Her previous posts were in Bogotá, Colombia, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Caleb Powell is a husband and father who lives in Edmonds, Washington, where he coaches his daughters’ basketball and soccer teams. His middle daughter claims she will dunk the ball one day. The Seneca Review recently published the first chapters of his nonfiction book.

Yael van der Wouden is a writer and editor who lives in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She co-founded Chaos Press, a Dutch feminist publishing house. In her off time she waters plants, walks into rooms and immediately forgets why, and reviews books for Platypus Press’s literary guide, The Wilds. Her work is set to appear in Ellipsis Zine.

Meredith Abenaim lives in North Reading, Massachusetts, where she puts on plays in her living room with her young daughter. Her work has appeared in Off the Coast and F-Stop.

Ripon Barua’s photographs have been exhibited in Bangladesh, the U.S., and Germany. He lives in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

William Carter’s photographs are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany. He lives in San Mateo, California.

Michael Galinsky lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His photo in this issue was taken in Durham, North Carolina, where a crowd gathered a few days after protestors had removed a Confederate statue. When the woman gave a gesture of black solidarity, the man stepped into the frame and gave a Nazi salute.

Tony King lives in Kennebunk, Maine. His grandfather once told him, “As soon as you think you know something, that’s when you know nothing.”

Matt Kollasch lives in Bern, Switzerland, where he takes German lessons three times a week.

Robert Meyer lives in Red Wing, Minnesota. Hitchhiking and train-hopping across the U.S. at the age of nineteen has left him continually restless as an adult.

Dan Pearlman lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been a photographer and jazz musician for more than forty years.

Jennifer Spelman used to take photos for a Colorado district attorney’s office — sometimes from helicopters and once through the periscope of an unmarked van outside a restaurant. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Julissa Yui lives in Jackson Heights, New York, where she works as a nurse, paints watercolors of friends’ pets, and drinks a mocha from Starbucks every other day.
