Ellen Bass is a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and teaches creative writing at Pacific University. She agrees with Julia Child: “If you’re afraid of butter, use cream.”

Kathleen Hawes lives in Brattleboro, Vermont, with a seven-year-old, Lego-playing ninja. She is pursuing an English degree at Smith College and is good at pillow fights, making grilled-cheese sandwiches, and eating grilled-cheese sandwiches.

Kurt Luchs lives in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where he manages a group of radio stations. Sagging Meniscus Press recently published his humor collection, It’s Funny Until Someone Loses an Eye (Then It’s Really Funny).

Tim McKee is the publisher at North Atlantic Books. He lives with his family in a small house with a big backyard in Oakland, California.

H.L. Mencken was a longtime contributor of editorials and opinion pieces to The Baltimore Sun. He died in 1956.

Dan Musgrave grew up in rural Kansas, where he preferred the company of animals to that of humans. He is a literary fellow with the Tulsa Artist Fellowship and is working on a collection of essays and a novel inspired by his cognitive research on great apes.

Brenda Peynado used to work in computer security. Now she teaches creative writing at the University of Central Florida, trains dogs, and grows pineapples.

Jacob Scheier studies creative writing at the Ohio State University. He is the author of two poetry collections, Letter from Brooklyn and More to Keep Us Warm, and a nonfiction e-book, My Never-Ending Acid Trip.

Heather Sellers lives in a bright-pink house in Saint Petersburg, Florida, very near where she grew up. She mentors young writers and is the author of the memoir You Don’t Look Like Anyone I Know.

Sara Feld is a photographer and massage therapist who lives in Concord, Massachusetts.

Fernando Villela was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and lives and works in New York City.

Carlos Gustavo is from New York City and spends much of his time taking photos on the road, though he doesn’t care for highways and interstates.

Frank Hamrick’s favorite days are the ones that don’t involve looking at a computer. He teaches at Louisiana Tech University School of Design and lives in Ruston, Louisiana.

George E. Holroyd lives with his wife in Budapest, Hungary. His work has been exhibited in Milan, Italy; Portland, Oregon; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Jon Kral spent decades taking photographs for three daily Florida newspapers. He lives in Boone, North Carolina.

Kron Krasniqi is a photographer who lives in Pristina, Kosovo.

Kristina Krause lives in Glendale, California. She began taking photographs as a means of staying sane while she pursued her PhD.
