Records, Tips, and Getting Dressed

Not sure what to write? See below for some prompts to spark an idea. Writing style isn’t as important as thoughtfulness and sincerity, and topics are intentionally broad to give room for expression and interpretation.

Records: Entries due January 1, 2025
The album that’s gotten you through every breakup. The fastest hundred-meter dash your school has ever seen. The genealogical research that uncovered your family’s past. The conviction signed by a judge. The marriage certificate that affirmed a relationship, or the divorce papers that ended it. There are all kinds of records. Send us your true story of the one you can’t forget by January 1.

Tips: Entries due February 1, 2025
Maybe you’re old enough that it means the coins left over after you’ve paid for your lunch. Maybe you’re young enough that it’s always been a button on the touch screen the cashier flips over to you. Maybe it’s advice, guidance, helpful hints. Round up your true stories on “Tips” and send them our way by February 1.

Getting Dressed: Entries due March 1, 2025
A wedding dress. A prom tux. A sari. A yarmulke. The first time you wore a bra. The last time your kid let you pick their clothes for them. The suit you donned like armor for the big job interview. The outfit you helped an elderly parent put on. The clothes you wear to make a first impression, to reflect your culture, to express your gender identity, to look good on a date. Dress up your true story however you like and send it to us by March 1.
