John Muir
John Muir was a Scottish-born naturalist and writer who immigrated to the U.S. in 1849 with his family at the age of eleven. He cofounded the Sierra Club in 1892, and his activism helped save the Yosemite Valley and other wilderness areas. Muir is often called “the father of the U.S. National Park Service.” He died in 1914 at age seventy-six.
